Nawanshahr, June 13, 2018: Under Tandarust Punjab project, the Department of Cooperation would purchase 284 agriculture equipments at cost of Rs 3.34 crore to curb the practice of stubble burning in SBS Nagar district.
These agriculture equipments would include Happy seeders, Rotavators, Zero tillage Drill, Baler and tractors etc to discourage the practice of stubble burning to ensure pollution-free environment.
Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Mohan Singh said that a meeting of the secretaries of 142 cooperative societies had been called today to apprise them of the strategy to check the menace of stubble burning.
The meeting took note of the fact that without having an alternative to dispose of stubble, farmers cannot be motivated to shun the practice of stubble burning.
He directed the societies' staff to maintain quality of agricultural inputs besides food products supplied to the members.
To cater to healthcare needs of members of Societies, department is going to Implement Bhai Kanahyia Health Insurance to provide cashless treatment amounting to Rs two lakh.
Under this scheme, a member of the society will be charged membership fee of Rs 1765 and his dependent with Rs 433 per head. After the launching of this scheme the members would be able to get a cashless treatment from the empanelled hospitals, he added.
