Nawanshahr, August 09, 2018: The Mid Day Meal Society under the aegis of Director Education Department ( Elementary), in a communication to the District Education Officers has sked them to ensure setting up of " Kitchen Gardens" in government schools. The Block Primary Education Officers and the school heads have been asked to mobilise assistance from the Horticulture department and krishi Vighyan Kendras for the purpose.
General Manager of the Mid Day Meal Society, Prabhcharan Singh, said that the idea of setting up of " Kitchen Gardens" in the schools was mooted at the meeting of Programme of Approval Board under MHRD in New Delhi on June 06, this year. The Joint Secretary, MHRD, lauded the idea and suggested to set up ' Kitch Gardens" in government schools in Punjab.
"The " Kitchen Gardens" in schools would help in providing seasonal vegetables for Mid Day Meal. The cultivation of vegetables in the schools would ensure fresh and nutritious food It would also bring down expenses being incurred on the Mid Day Meal", said Vinod Kumar, District Education Officer.
