Nawanshahr, August 10, 2018: Under the " Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab" project, the school teachers have started resorting to crative and innovative teaching techniques , activities and methods to make the teaching - learning interesting and effective.
Rajinder Nath Sharma, a Social Sudies Master, Government Middle School, Kahlon falling under the Kandi area of the district SBS Nagar, has devised a trend setting innovative activity - " Mock Poll" , to make the students learn about the election process.
" Under the week long " Mock Poll" activity, the school students were provided an opportunity to have first hand experience of the election process by participating in the activities including preparation of voters'lists, filing of nomination, scrutiny of nomination papers, rejection of nomination papers, allotment of election symbols, election campaigning through posters, election rallies, preparation of ballot papers, ballot boxes, appointment of polling staff , conduct of polling, counting and declaration of result", said Rajinder Nath while adding that the students prepared all the requisite teaching learning material needed for the activity as well as participated in electioneering with zest.
"The students - Chhushant of class 6th, Rajiv, Jaskaran , Bhupinder of class 7th and Akash of class 8th filed their nomintion papers for the post of the school head boy. The nomination paper of Akash was rejected during scrutiny as he had given wrong information. During campaiging, a 'candidate' was served notice as he offered toffees to allure voters", further said the school teacher while adding that interstingly Chhushant a jovial student of class 6th won the election and a candidate used to bully their fellow students could get two votes only, which included vote of his sister apart from his own vote.
The students are quite elated to learn not only the election process in a play way method but they have also learnt the lessons about winning the trust of the people and leadership qualities etc. , added Rajinder.
