Fatehgarh Sahib, August 13, 2018: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh will launch specially designed campaign against drug abuse under the banner of “ BUDDY’s” with the theme “ Nashea toh Azadi” by administring oath to school and college students on the eve of Independence Day in the district, said Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon Deputy Commissioner while presiding over the meeting of Principals of all Schools , colleges and Universities here today. He said that all the arrangements for the launch of the campaign have been completed.
Giving the details DC said that the objective of the program is to prevent the students from falling prey to drugs abuse by providing knowledge, imparting behavioral skills and developing a system for self group monitoring and support. He said that every school and college will constitute BUDDY’s groups comprising of five students in each class and every class will be allotted to a teacher and he will be called senior BUDDY. He said that a nodal officer for each school will be appointed. The school head will provide 30 minutes every week to the student to interact with each other in the BUDDY’s group. The students will be briefed about ill effects of drugs and how to say no to drugs.
DC said that school heads have been directed to constitute maximum BUDDY groups in their respective schools. He said besides this the district administration is also pursuing a three pronged strategy enforcement, de-addiction and prevention. He said DAPO program is going on successfully by involving every section of society.
