Fatehgarh Sahib, August 15, 2018: 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the grounds of Mata Gujri College Stadium here today. Rana KP Singh Speaker Vidhan Sabha Punjab unfurl the National flag. He along with Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon Deputy Commissioner and Alka Meena SSP took the salute from the contingents of Punjab Police, Home Guards and NCC cadets and inspected the parade.
In his address Rana KP said that though we got the independence on 15th August.1947, but its foundation was laid in Fatehgarh Sahib, when two younger Sahibjadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji were bricked alive here by Mughal rulers.
Highlighting the achievements of the Govt. He said that Capt. Govt. has initiated various schemes and projects to fulfill the promises made in manifesto. He said that the major cause of concern drug abuse has been controlled to larger extent and in future State will be made drug free as an innovative move by involving school and college students under the banner of “Buddy” have been launched. He said that Gangsters have been neutralized, law and order has been maintained, debt of farmers are being eradicated, and employment is being provided under Ghar Ghar Naukri scheme. He said that at the cost of Rs.7.32 Crore a park in the memory of great martyr Baba Moti Ram Mehra near Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib is being constructed. He said that 92 villages of Fatehgarh Sahib District, whose underground water has been contaminated will be provided clean drinking water from Bhakra canal and the project at the cost of Rs.111.53 Crore has been cleared. He said that at the cost of Rs.39.16 Crore a 10KM road and two bridges have been constructed on Sirhind-Bhadson Road. He said Punjab is the most peaceful State having strong communal harmony.
He also recounted the sacrifices made by freedom fighters to get the independence and highlighted the importance of this Day. He urged the people to follow the path of love, brotherhood and communal harmony for the development of our society and country as shown by our great martyrs and Gurus. He also highlighted the achievements of the State Govt. and said that Govt. is committed for the welfare of every section of society.
On this occasion school children presented an impressive cultural program. He handed over 16 sewing machines to widows, 8 tri cycles to handicapped and honoured the freedom fighters, prominent personalities, employees who excelled in their field and those who participated in cultural activities.
