Ferozepur August 15, 2018: The Contract Workers led by Resham Singh Gill, State President, on a call from Punjab Roadways Punbus Contract Workers Union Punjab to all the 18 depots in the state, today wear 'black chola' to register their protest in regularization of their services.
Resham Singh Gill said we still feel as a slave of an independent country as we are still being forced to work under contract system and the private mafia is being given preference.
Pargat Singh, Depot Patron said, around 5,000 workers are working on meagre wages of Rs.7,000 per month and they are being made to feel the existence of slavery in the independent country as with these wages, it has become difficult to brought up the children with better education and health facilities.
We demand from the government to increase our wages giving us a feeling of being the resident of free India, he added.
He further said the government is backing out from the decision of the Supreme Court of ‘equal work, equal pay’.
He said the Union has planned to organize dharna in front of Director State Transport office on August 28, followed by another intensified protest on September 9 with one days’ strike.
