Ferozepur August 20, 2018: On getting a tip-off, the Makhu police claimed to have arrested 17 miscreants who are involved in illegal gambling and recovered cash amount during a raid in front of the godowns of Food Corporation of India. A case under the Gambling Act has been registered.
Divulging with more information, Lakhwinder Singh, SI informed that a special informer gave information to the police of gambling by about a dozen-person and in the event of the raid, a heavy cash amount could be detected.
Sources said that a group of local goons were regularly organizing gambling there.
Working on the tip-off, the police raided at the designated place and arrested 17 persons along with stake money of Rs.15,880. Those who arrested were identified as Surjit Singh son of Mulla Singh, Bittu son of Mohinder, Raju, Vipan Shinda, Kashmir Doli, Jagtar resident of Makhu and ten other unidentified persons.
Further investigation has been started after registration of the case under the Gambling Act. During the investigation, it will be seen as to whether these arrested persons have any links with betting during IPL matches or otherwise, said sources.
