Jalandhar, September 21, 2018 :In view of the upcoming Mela at Sri Sidh Baba Sodal Temple, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma has banned the sale of meat and liquor within one kilometer radius of the temple on September 23. Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC), 1973, the Deputy Commissioner has ordered that all the liquor and meat shops within one kilometer radius of the world renowned temple would remain closed on September 23.
He said that the decision has been taken on the account of historic and religious importance of the temple. Mr. Sharma said that as pilgrims from across the world would be converging at this famous place so the opening of the meat and liquor shops in the area could create major law and order problem by hurting the sentiments of the people.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha today said that more than 1500 security personnel would be deployed round the clock during the famous Sri Sidh Baba Sodal Mela. He said that keeping in view the heavy influx of the pilgrims to this sacred place the Police department would make elaborate security arrangements. Besides deployment of 1500 security personnel, CCTV cameras would be installed around the mela premises to keep a strict vigil over the visitors and a control room would be set up in Mela premises. Sinha said that fool proof arrangements would be made for traffic diversion, parking of vehicles, security arrangements and other facilities during the Mela, so that pilgrims do not face any sort of inconvenience.
