DC takes stock of arrangements, Gurdas Mann to regale audience

Jalandhar was fully decked up for spectacular mega sporting event ‘Global Kabaddi League’ to start from today (October 14) at the local Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park under the aegis of the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ of the state government.
The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma took stock of the arrangements at stadium for the event to be inaugurated by the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Sunday.
He said that foolproof arrangements would be made for the event in which iconic Punjabi Singer Mr. Gurdas Mann would regale the audiences with his melodious voice. Mr. Sharma asked the officers to ensure that no stone was left unturned to make this mega event a huge success.
The Deputy Commissioner said that special teams would be deputed by the Health department for conducting the dope tests of the players participating in the event. Likewise, he said that medical teams would also be deployed for providing relief to the players in case of any need during the matches.
Mr. Sharma further said that elaborate arrangements would be made for parking and movement of traffic, security, cleanliness in and around stadium besides others.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that to further promote sports in the statethe league was being held by the Sports Department in collaboration with the private sponsors as the entire expenses would be borne by them whereas the administrative help and the stadiums would be provided by the State Government.
He said that six teams namely California Eagles (USA), Maple Leaf (Canada), Singh Warriors (Punjab), Black Panthers (Fresno, USA), Haryana Lions (India) and Doaba Warriors (USA) would participate in the league and vie for top award of Rs 1 crore adding that first runners up would get Rs 75 lakh whereas second runners up would get a prize of Rs 50 lakh.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr. Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Parambir Singh Parmar, NRIs Mr. Ranjit Singh Tut, Mr. Ranbir Singh Tut, Mr. Amarjit Singh Tut and Mr. Yogesh Chabra, Organizing Secretary Surjit Hockey Mr. Surinder Singh Bhapa and others.
