New Delhi, November 05, 2018 : Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal’s flagship initiative to attract top global talent to work on cutting edge reforms of the Delhi government, the Chief Minister’s Urban Leaders Fellowship programme, has attracted stellar global response. In the three weeks of application window which ended last Sunday, 5592 applications were received.
The applicants included graduates from the topmost foreign and Indian universities. A total of 3824 applications were received from 92 of the top 100 Indian universities as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2018.
This includes over 300 applications from IITs and several from IISc Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, IIM Kolkata and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Among the foreign universities, close to 200 applications were received from 49 of the top 100 global universities as per Times Higher Education rankings. Around 30 applications were received from the London School of Economics and Political Science and several more from other top global universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Columbia and NUS Singapore.
The programme has also successfully managed to attract professionals working at top Indian and foreign companies and institutions such as AIIMS, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, United Nations, UNICEF, World Bank, Mckinsey, Goldman Sachs and Bain and company.
“We are very excited but not surprised to see the kind of response this Fellowship scheme has attracted. This is a testimony to how young professionals see the transformative work of Delhi government in the past three and a half years, and how eager they are to join this journey of change,” said Shri Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister’s Urban Leaders Fellowship programme was launched on 13 October 2018 and was aims at providing a unique opportunity to young leaders across India and the world to work within Delhi government to address some of the most pressing urban challenges in India, and experience what ‘making change happen’ looks like. The Fellowship aims to attract outstanding young men and women from across the country under the age of 35 years who are passionate about public service and are willing to work for two years.
