SDM chairs Lok Adalat for revenue, civil cases in Kapurthala

Kapurthala, 17 November, 2018: As per instructions of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), National Lok Adalat relating to pending revenue and civil matters a State Level Special Lok Adalat was held at Sub divisional Complex, Kapurthala. Dr Nayan Jassal SDM who is President of Lok Adalat informed that 4 benches have been constituted including Sub-Divisions of Kapurthala.
In all 27 cases were taken up for disposal and they were related to maintainence of senior citizens, contested mutations, appeals of partition and other miscellaneous cases, disclosed Dr Nayan. But no compromise was reached in any case, she said.
Dr Nayan Jassal said “Under Section 19 of The Legal Services Authorities Act 1987, the Lok Adalats are organized to decide pending cases as well as the cases which are yet to be filed in the court”. It means that the matters are taken up and efforts are made to arrive at a compromise before it is filed in the court.
She further said “In this way, energy, time and money are saved. In case, a compromise is arrived at, an award is passed which is equal to decree of a Civil Court and the court fee is refunded”. No appeal can be filed against this award.
She said Lok Adalat is very effective in settlement of money claims and Lok Adalat is having all the powers of a civil court so far as summoning of witnesses, production of document etc is concerned.
