Jalandhar, January 19, 2019:In order to solve the problem of the stray cattle in the city, the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the District Animal Welfare Society for shifting the stray animals to Kania Kalan Gaushala near Shahkot.
The MoU was signed by Member of Animal Welfare Society and Sub Divisional Magistrate Shahkot . Navneet Kaur Bal and Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation Rajiv Verma, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Mayor Jalandhar Jagdish Raj Raja.
As per the MoU the Municipal Corporation would pay Rs 30 lakh for under construction shed at the Kania Kalan Gaushala in two instalments of Rs 15 lakh each. Likewise, they would pay Rs 32 per day per animal to the District Animal Welfare Society for fodder of the animals. This payment would be made in advance before the civic body sends animals to the Gaushala.
Describing it as a historic moment, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was need of the hour to ensure to solve the problem of stray animals in the city. He said that on its part the district administration would ensure fulsome support and cooperation to the civic body in this noble cause. Sharma said that the stray animals were causing a serious nuisance in the city besides posing a major threat to the lives and property of the people.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Municipal Corporation Jagdish Raj Raja assured the Deputy Commissioner that Municipal Corporation would leave no stone unturned to contribute for this noble cause. He assured all sort of help and assistance to the district administration in tackling the menace of stray animals.
On the occasion Sub Divisional Magistrates Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Navneet Kaur Bal and Sanjiv Sharma, Officer of Special Duty to Mayor Harpreet Walia, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Satbir Singh Bajwa and others were also present.
