Nawanshahr, February 10, 2019: OOAT Centers are proving boon for the strengthening social fabric. The OOAT centres have been helping the victims of drug abuse to join family main stream by providing effective treatment to them in SBS Nagar district.
Recently, a youth who got addicted to drugs in Australia five years ago has been treated for de-addiction successfully at Nawanshahr.
Dali (name changed) had gone there to earn money after completing his nursing diploma here but fell prey to the drugs during his five and half years stay there. After returning to India five years back, he had shattered the dreams of his family. He was younger to both sisters and elder to a younger brother. One day, one of his sisters shared her concern with a school teacher who fortunately was a senior buddy of a buddy group of a school. The school teacher brought the matter into the notice of the district administration and managed to get the drug victim to the local OOAT center.
His arrival to the OOAT center totally changed the course of his life and now after five months of treatment, he has started leading normal life. Now in his thirties, he used to spend time with his family. He hates his previous life and did not like to remember that dark phase of his life.
Dr. Prince Janagill, In charge Nawanshahr OOAT center, while endorsing the improvement in Dali, said that not only Dali, there were many youngsters who had been getting de-addiction treatment here, feeling pleasant change in their lives .
We have got success to bring them back from the dark side of life with our concerted efforts, he added elatedly.
Dr. Janagill, who is also a youngster, treats the addicts not as a guilty, but with compassion to bail them out from their problem.
" Many addicts are so firm to shun the drugs and visit the center regularly, he added. Narrating the bitter experiences from his job, he said that many a times, the OOAT center staff had to face tough time during the counseling of such youths but now they are used to. The staff that includes a counselor Renuka Kler, Dispenser Sandeep and he self, do not mind if some one gets irritated during enquiry or counseling. Instead they understand their pain and stigma and try to get them strong enough to shun the habit of drugs.
Narrating the tale of another 26 years old who is working as a shop boy with a mobile shop, he said that he was come here in last December and now visits OOAT center daily before going to shop. As he does not want to get addicted to drugs again so he regularly visits the center. Another Ninteen years old youngster who had got addicted to drugs after the death of his father, was brought here by his aged grandfather some days ago. He also visits center regularly to get rid of the bad habit and wants to become a responsible member of his family.
Dr. Janagill adds that it depends upon our will power whether we will succeed in getting rid of drug addiction or not.
