Jalandhar, March 13, 2019: Embarking a major drive against the traffic violations especially by overloaded heavy vehicles, a joint team of district administration and traffic police issued 17 challans on Tuesday in Pathankot Chowk.
The drive was carried out by Regional Transport Authority (RTA) secretary Dr Nayyan Jassal and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP Traffic) Vaibhav Sehgal along with heavy police force.
The team checked the vehicles entering the city from Pathankot road and issued challans of overloading besides pressure horns, commercial vehicles being sued as private vehicles and etc.
Dr Nayyan Jassal said that overloaded vehicles not only damage the roads but the drivers also create a huge risk to the lives of people.
She said that there are numerous vehicles in the city which ply on the road which float the norms and carry goods beyond their capacity.
She said that the overloaded vehicles have become a major reason behind the mishaps as the drivers use to lose control on vehicles which ultimately hit another vehicle or get overturn resulting accident.
She said that the drive will be conducted daily and will continue till all the overloaded vehicles go off roads.
RTA said that the stern action would be taken against the erring vehicle owners.
