Jalandhar, March 14, 2019: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today solicited fulsomely support and cooperation of the audio-video media to make the youngsters aware of the need for enrolling them as voters in the democratic system and about their voting rights.
Presiding over a meeting with the representatives of the Radio channels and Cable service providers here today at his office, the Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh said that the media especially audio-video has a deep impact on the psyche of youngsters. He said that the media could be aptly utilized for generating maximum awareness amongst the youth so that they could actively participate in the ongoing democratic process. Sharma said that the audio-video media must contribute towards this noble cause by ensuring adequate mention of the vote making process in their broadcasts so that the youngsters could avail the opportunity of making the votes.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the youngsters could apply for the vote till April 19th before the polls adding that they must be encouraged to use this opportunity for strengthening democracy at the grass-root level. Similarly, he said that special programs must also be broadcasted to ensure that the youth were made aware of the importance of the vote in the democratic system. Sharma said that this would help in sensitizing the youth to be active partners in the democratic system.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the youth must be informed that they could register them as voters through a single click on their computer or mobile, way back from their home. Sharma said that to facilitate the youth the Election Commission of India has launched National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline App). He said that the youth have to click the link www.nvsp.in for getting them registered as new voters. Likewise Sharma said that the youth could also download Voter Helpline App from Google Play store in their android phone for enrolling them as voters.
