Fazilka, March 20, 2019 - The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Mr. Manpreet Singh Chhatwal today directed all the officers to complete vulnerability mapping work of the district on priority basis. He was presiding over a joint meeting of the officers of the civil and Police administration along with Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Deepak Hilori here at District Administrative complex.
"Officers should give top priority for completing vulnerability mapping of the district and the report must be sent after meticulous planning and extensive field visits. In order to ensure free, fair and transparent polls sensitive and hypersensitive polling booths must be identified so that adequate security arrangements could be made at the time of polls", he added.
Divulging further, Mr. Chhatwal informed that as per 31 January, 2019 list, total 7,11,435 voters will exercise their right to vote in the district. Out of these, 3,78,010 are male, 3,33,407 female and 18 transgender voters will cast their votes, Besides, 1863 service voters related to the district will also participate in vote process by casting their votes. He said that 782 polling stations will be set up at 483 different locations in the district. Out of which, 601 polling stations are rural and 181 are urban.
Deputy Commissioner and SSP collectively said to make necessary arrangements for the polls, this entire process must be completed as soon as possible. They said that police and administrative officers must synchronize their efforts at the grass root level so that they do not face any sort of problem in conducting the polls. They also said that Confidence Building Measures should also be taken in the sensitive areas so that people’s faith could be further cemented in democratic process.
