Jalandhar, March 20, 2019: Describing the drug problem as a socio-economic problem, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Special Task Force (STF) against drugs, Punjab Gurpreet Kaur Deo today said that every strata of society have to make a collective effort for completely wiping out this curse from the state.
The ADGP, who was here to inaugurate specialized training under the NDPS Act to the officers at PAP Complex, said that the Punjab Police has been already making strenuous efforts for eliminating this menace from the state.
However, she said that such efforts could not be fruitful without the active support and cooperation of the general public.
Deo said that the time has come when every section of society must contribute towards this noble cause and make war against drug a huge success.
She said that the Police has crackdown heavily on the people indulging in the drug trade. She said that 90% of around 143 drug peddlers from whom two kilograms or above heroin has been seized were behind the bars for this heinous crime.
The ADGP said that the training aims at sharpening the investigative skills all the officers of STF during the war against drugs. She said that dealing with NDPS Act the officers have to undergo technical investigation so any sort laxity in this was both unwarranted and undesirable.
Deo said that the STF was committed for overcoming all the limitations involved in making Punjab a completely drug free state.
Recalling the glorious tradition of Punjab Police in service of the country, the Additional Director General of Police said that the terrorism in the state was wiped out due to the firm resolve of the State Police. She said that now also the Punjab Police was making wholehearted efforts to make wipe out this malady from the state. Deo said that we would take the menace of drugs head on and ensure that it was completely eliminated at the earliest.
She further said that the training was aimed at better and effective implementation of the NDPS Act. She said that with cybercrime, narco and cyber terrorism spreading its wings Policing has emerged as a challenging task for which technical upgradation was the need of hoúr. Deo said that the Police have to be technically and strategically more advanced than the criminals for tackling the crime efficaciously.
