Fatehgarh Sahib.April.11, 2019: Punjab Rice Millers Association led by Tarsem Saini National President & Inderjeet Sandhu District President organized a dharna at FCI depot Sirhind today in protest against the Area Manager of the FCI of Chandigarh zone alleging that he has been demanding bribe, blackmailing and harassing the Rice Millers functioning under his jurisdiction on one pretext or the other for the procurement of Rice for his vested interests. They raised slogans against the Area Manager and FCI management and demanded vigilance enquiry against him.
Addressing the media Tarsem Saini National Association President Rice Millers Association said that last month, Regional Office, FCI Punjab Region arranged one Rice Special on dated 29.02.2019 for loading 50% Rice from Chanarthal and 50% rice of Sirhind, but the Area Manager got loaded the rice stocks of Chanarthal centre only thereby leaving 39 Rice millers of Sirhind sulking by depriving them from delivering Rice for want of bribe, which they refused. They said had the rice been lifted there would have been enough space to stag the rice but now godowns are full and there is no space. Saini said that this action of the District Managers is grows violation of the instructions of their Regional Office.
He also blamed him for adopting the policy of pick and chose for his personal gains as one Miller of Sirhind was attached with Bassi Pathana and allotted him three stacks for delivering Rice, whereas the said space should have been allotted proportionately to three Rice Millers. Similarly Millers of Kurali Centre have been attached with Kharar and that of Morinda Centre with Sanghol for Rice acceptance as a Rice special was allotted to District Chandigarh by their Regional Office, which he got loaded from Morinda and Kurali Centres, so that space created at these Centres is put to sale amongst the millers of adjoining Centres. He said thats Millers of Sirhind are sitting idle for the last 15-20 days due to non-availability of space for Rice delivery, whereas as per policy of Regional Office priority has to be given for the liquidation of stocks taking into consideration the huge pendency of stocks at the particular centre. He said that the wrong doings of the District Manager has been brought to the notice of their Regional Office, but of no use.
Association demanded that the management of FCI should immediately order a high level vigilance inquiry against the District Manager FCI, Chandigarh within 2 days after shifting him and the millers will provide proof of corruption committed by him with documents. He warned if the management did not take any action Millers of the State will launch dharna in front of General Manager, FCI at Chandigarh.
When contacted Vinay Kumat DM FCI, he refuted the allegations of bribe and said what the proof they have. He said it is all pressure tactics nothing else, the loading is a systematic process. He said there is space problem, but he can’t do anything, he is doing his duty rightfully.
