Fatehgarh Sahib, June 17, 2019: Under the buddy program of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the district administration has formed 18,344 buddy groups in schools, colleges and universities of the district, who will create awareness among the students community regarding the ill-effects of drug abuse, said Dr. Prashant Kumar Goyal, Deputy Commissioner.
He said that under the ‘Tu Mera Buddy’ program of Punjab Government2,814 teachers have also been deputed as senior buddies to sensitize the students about the issue, a group of five students has been formed and a teacher has also been appointed as senior buddy in each group to educate them about the menace of drug abuse. He said that to eradicate the drug menace from the society the residents should be apprised about the negative consequences of consuming drugs.
DC also appealed to the parents to take care about the whereabouts of their children as due to minor precautions; they could easily save their wards from falling in trap of drugs. He added that friendly approach from parents' side would also encourage the children to inform them about their even minor problems.
District Education Officer (Secondary) Paramjit Kaur said that besides creating awareness about drug abuse, these buddy groups are also helping each other group members to solve their academic problems.
