Jalandhar, June 21,2019: The District Expenditure Monitoring Committee (DEMC) constituted for keeping a strict vigil over use of money power in the Lok Sabha polls has finalized the expenditure meted out by the candidates in these elections after giving time of reconciliation for the candidates.
The committee comprising Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, Election Observers Preeti Chaudhary and Amit Shukla besides Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Smart City, Jitendra Jorwal finalized the expenses made by the various candidates in these polls. Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner said that as per the expenses finalized by the committee Congress candidate and Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh has spent Rs. 68.90 lakh during the polls, Akali-BJP Candidate Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal has spent Rs. 50.07 lakhs, Aam Aadmi Party Candidate Justice (Retd.) Jora Singh has spent Rs 20.37 lakh, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Balwinder Kumar has spent Rs 31. 11 lakh, Urmilla candidate of Ambedkar National Congress has spent Rs 94190, Shiv Sena candidate Mr. Subash Goria spent Rs 1.63 lakh, Hari Mitter of People’s Party of India (Democratic) has spent Rs 46,141, Gurupal Singh of Bharat Prabhat Party has spent Rs 48200, Jagan Nath Bajwa of Hum Bhartiya Party has spent Rs1.11 lakh, Tara Singh Gill of Bahujan Samaj Party (Ambedkar) has spent Rs 1.61 lakh, Parkash Chand Jassal of Republican Party of India (A) has spent Rs 1.28 lakh, Baljinder Sodhi of Nationalist Justice Party has spent Rs 18590, Ramesh Lal Kala of Bahujan Mukti Party has spent Rs 38093, Independent candidates Mr. Opkar Singh Bakshi has spent Rs 1.72 lakh, Amrish Kumar has spent Rs 1.22 lakh, Sukhdev Singh has spent Rs 47166, Kashmir Singh Ghugshore has spent Rs 1.48 lakh and Neetu Shutteran Wala has spent Rs 44800. However, an independent candidate Valmikacharya Nitya Anand has not submitted the account of money spent by him.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated said that a foolproof mechanism was evolved to ensure that candidates adhere to the limit of spending maximum amount of Rs 70 lakh during the Lok Sabha polls. He said that strict vigil was kept on the entire expenditure being made by the candidates during the polls. Sharma said that teams led by Assistant Expenditure Observers monitored the expenditure made by candidates from the date of filing of nominations to the day of counting, including winning procession by the successful candidate.
