Nawanshahr, July 14, 2019 : JSA Team from Center Govt. headed by Shri Ram Karan, Advisor to Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and comprised of other two members Ms Shefali Dhingra, Director (CEA) and Mr Sandeep Bisht, Deputy Director (CWC) along with officials from district administration and department visited Khatkarh Kalan Memorial where they paid tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh. They planted Silver-Oak samplings in Memorial Complex to encourage aforestation.
Later the team inspected Rain Water Harvesting structure in the Park near ancestoral house of Shaheed –e- Azam Bhagat Singh. The team suggested to have such Rain Water Harvesting structures in all other such parks and Govt. Buildings so that Ground water table can be recharged.
The team after visiting village Naura, Heon, Sandhwan, Sal Kalan and Mandhali, appreciated the efforts of village Panchayats for reuse of waste water from the village for irrigation and asked other farmers and departments concerned to adopt such activities in the whole district. DFO Satinder Singh while apprising the team of ongoing plantation drive dedicated to the 550th Birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji said that under the drive as many as 256300 saplings would be planted by planting minimum 550 trees in each Gram Panchayat area of District. Team head Shri Ram Karan suggested to expand the number of trees upto the greatest possible extent. The Team also appreciated the works of rejuvenation of Ponds on Seechewal Model and initiatives taken by the NRI committees of villages for such works.
The team also interacted with the Sarpanches from 85 villages from block Nawanshahr, Aur and Banga. Shri Ram Karan explained the purpose of Jal Shakti Abhyian and sensitised the Sarpanches and department officials present in the meeting to adopt the best practices in irrigation and water conservation so that future generation do not have to face water scarcity. The team motivated the farmers to cultivate alternative crops to paddy so that agricultural water consumption can be reduced for the betterment of everyone.
The team also recommended the district officers present there, for the installation of Roof Top Rain Water Harvesting in the Govt. schools of rural area.
