Jalandhar, July 21, 2019: In order to create a mass movement to save the depleting groundwater table, the district the administration has decided to enrol the young minds in the schools and to sensitize them about the importance of saving groundwater by administrating oaths to them in the morning assembly.
Divulging the details, the deputy commissioner Mr. Kulwant Singh said the young minds have enormous ideas, unmatched creativity and energy to make a better earth. He said that by channelizing their energy, reformative results can be brought in this mass drive.
He said that the young minds after taking the oath, they will disseminate the message of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ in their families and localities thus will help to make it mass drive.
Singh stated that the education department has already deputed teachers and experts to make the young minds aware of the present scenario and steps which needed to be taken immediately to stop the groundwater depleting further.
Singh added that all ten blocks of the district have been declared over-exploited already and if we will continue to adopt such an attitude, Punjab would become desert very soon.
He said that the excessive exploitation of water needs to be checked at every cost for which every individual should play their own role.
Kulwant Singh said that we were the first generation to feel the pinch due to a shortage of water and probably would the last generation that could make strenuous efforts for saving water.
The deputy commissioner said that this would help in sensitizing the people about this grave issue of immense public importance.
Kulwant Singh also asked the students to give full support for making ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ a mass campaign to save the depleting the groundwater level in the district.
