Jalandhar, November 24, 2019: With the 100% procurement and lifting of paddy from the district, the Jalandhar district was heading towards smooth and hassle free completion of the paddy procurement season 2019-20.
As per the details during the Kharif Marketing Season 2018-19, the procurement agencies had procured 9,86, 675 metric ton of paddy whereas till November 23rd this year the agencies have already procured 9,85,553 metric ton of paddy and in coming few days the administration was likely to touch the expected figure of 10 lakh metric ton of paddy for its procurement. Due to elaborate arrangements made by the district administration, the entire operation had been smooth and hassle-free.
Divulging more details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that so far 9.85 lakh metric ton paddy has been procured in the grain markets across the district. He said that out of this around 9.76 lakh metric ton paddy purchased till November 21 has been lifted from the mandis. Mr. Sharma reiterated that on the directions of the state government, the district administration was firmly committed for completing the procurement and lifting without any inconvenience to the farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner said that along with on-spot procurement of the grains thrust was also been laid on timely payment to farmers and lifting of grains within 48 hours. Sharma said that so far payment worth Rs 1741.161 crore has been made to the farmers for their produce adding that around 78 mandis/ purchase centers were notified for the procurement of paddy in the district, which were allotted to the procurement agencies for lifting of the grains adding that as per the directions of state government instead of December 15th the Kharif Marketing season would end on November 30th this year. He said that the procurement agencies have been directed to ensure prompt payment to the farmers and ensure that lifting of the grains within 48 hours of procurement as per the policy of the state government due to which 100% procurement and lifting of the grains has been ensured
