Antigua, July 23, 2016: Medium fast bowler Mohammed Shami (4 for 66), spinner Umesh Yadav (4 for 41) and agile wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha (five catches and one stumping) virtually engineered the downfall of West Indies who were dismissed for 243 in 90.2 overs in their first innings on the third day of first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadum here.
India enforced follow on as West Indies trailed by 323 runs on first innings. West Indies have lost the wicket of opener Kraigg. Brathwaite (2) and were struggling at 21 for 1 in 13 overs. At close of play on third day, West Indies were 302 runs behind with nine second wickets in hand. Rajendra Chandrika and Darren Bravo were batting on 9 and 10, respectively.
Earlier, defiant knocks by opener Kraigg. Brathwaite (74) and 69-run partnership for eighth wicket stand between Shane Dowrich (57 not out, 10x4s) and Jason Holder (36) averted the abject surrender by the West Indies batsmen.
Indian medium fast bower Mohammed Shami and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha displayed a demolishing squad for West Indies. The Indian wicketkeeper had a hand in dismissal of three out of four wickets Shami took for 41 runs in 17 overs, four of which were maiden.
Rajendra Chandrika (16), Darren Bravo (11) and Marlon Samuels (1) were caught behind by Wriddhiman Saha of the bowling of Mohammad Shami. Shami's fourth victim was Jermaine Blackwood (0) who was caught by Ajinkya Rahane. Saha also caught West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite (74) and Jason Holder (36) of the bowling of Umesh Yadav. Yadav also captured the wickets of Roston Chase (23, caight by Rahane) and Carlos Brathwaitre (bolwed for 0). Amit Mishra bagged the wickets of Devendra Bishoo (12, stumped by Saha) and Shannon Gabriel (bowled 2).
Kraigg. Brathwaite played a defiant knock of 74 but saw the wickets regularly falling at the other hand. His 291-minute stay at the wicket earned him 74 runs from 218 deliveries and contained seven boundaries. He was caught behind of the bowling of Umesh Yadav. Shane Dowrich (57 not out, 52 balls, 5x4s, 1x6) and Jason Holder (36) also tried their best challenge the Indian bowlers. But their efforts were not encough to save their team.
India got two successes before lunch as West Indies were struggling at 90 for 3 in their first innings. Amit Mishra removed night watchman Devendra Bishoo, caugh by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Shaa. Bishoo's contribution was 12 from 46 deliveries and his wicket fell at 68 after West Indies resumed their first innings at overnight score of 31 for 1.
