Ensuring a growing job market and a strong economy continue to be among the top concerns of Congresswoman Susan Brooks and she has affirmed that she is committed to doing everything she can to help businesses and employees alike succeed.
During travelling the Fifth District, Congresswoman Susan heard from Hoosier employers that they face a shortage of skilled workers to fill in-demand positions and for employees getting and keeping a good job continues to be challenging. She is of the opinion that part of the solution is attracting companies to our communities.
"I had the honor of helping Mayor Scott Fadness, the Fishers City Council, and IKEA team members break ground on the first IKEA store in our state, set to open in Fishers next year. The store brings good quality jobs and a loyal customer base to one of the Fifth District’s fastest growing cities," disclosed Susan Brooks.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs help prepare students with the necessary academic, technical and employability skills required to close the skills gap and get jobs.
Earlier this fall, Susan Brooks was proud to vote for H.R. 5587 the Strengthening CTE for the 21st Century Act. This bipartisan legislation reauthorizes and reforms the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to help more Americans enter the workforce with the career and technical skills they need to compete for high-skilled, in-demand jobs. These jobs will provide more Americans with the security they need to support their families and plan for the future.
"We also need to focus on getting government out of the way of business growth in our communities by eliminating burdensome regulations and reforming our tax code so that American companies can complete globally. As part of the better way agenda, we have outlined our ideas to cut red tape that is stifling growth and to overhaul our tax code for businesses and individuals alike.
"As I continue to visit with Hoosier business owners and employees, I am asking for feedback on these ideas. I hope you’ll visit better.gop to learn more about our proposals and contact me with your thoughts," she concluded .
Earlier this month, Susan Brooks visited with Build Indiana Council members Martin Marietta Aggregates and Milestone Contractors to see first-hand how our transportation infrastructure is made and repaired. It was great to see the entire construction process, from mining stone from the ground to laying pavement for public use, in action, and to talk to members about facility operations and safety.
" Last year, we passed a long-term federal transportation funding package, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, which provides state and local governments the certainty they need to move forward with critical transportation projects. While I was touring the road construction site on I-69 in Hamilton County, I observed the importance of reduced speed limits that protect the workers who are doing the dangerous work of building our roads. Please obey posted speed limits and keep these workers safe!"
FRIEND OF FARM BUREAU AWARD
During a recent visit to Evermilk Logistics, Susan Brooks accepted the Friend of Farm Bureau award, which is presented to Federal lawmakers who have demonstrated support for policies that foster a positive climate for agriculture and rural communities.
Evermilk is responsible for transporting milk throughout the Eastern and Central United States, and is headquartered in Anderson, Indiana. Following the tour of Evermilk, she was able to see dairy operations at Willemsen Dairy Farm in Frankton, Indiana. Owner and operator, Tejo Willemsen and his family, tend to 1,500 dairy cows and help drive agribusiness in the Fifth District.
