Chandigarh, March 20, 2017: Gold medalist in 400 metres and 200 metres Ravinder Singh of Faculty of Education was declared the best athlete in the boys category of the 4th Desh Bhagat University Annual Athletic Championship in Mandi Gobindgarh.
Kanwaljeet Kaur of Faculty of Education was adjudged the best athlete among girls. Kanwaljeet Kaur secured gold in 800 metres and silver in shot put. Faculty of Education lifted the overall champions trophy.
During the athletic meet, individual and team competitions among students of various university faculties were held. These competitions included athletics, basketball, badminton, table tennis and football.
University Vice-chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh presided over the valedictory function and gave away the prizes to the winners. He appreciated the sports talent of the students. On this occasion, Director Dr. Kulbhushan, Director Dr. Surjit Patheja and large number of students from different faculties were present.
Arjuna Awardee weightlifter and coach Paramjit Sharma from Punjabi University, Patiala was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.
