Fatehgarh Sahib, November 18, 2017: Two Day 5th Sahib Dayal memorial open chess tournament for seniors as well as under 14 and 17 for boys and girls started at Sirhind town today. Varinderjit Singh Thind DSP Fatehgarh Sahib inaugurated the tournament. More than 150 players from Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Himachal are participating in the tournament.
Prof. Narinder Sood national level player of chess and member of organising trust said that the tournament is organised to encourage the sense of sportsmanship among the budding youths as well as to exercise their brain as chess is a brain game. He said seven rounds will be held in the tournament and on final day Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA will give away the prizes. He said players will be given T shirts and handsome prize money. Their boarding and lodging has been arranged by the organisers.
Subhash Sood former Vice president of the council said that besides sports the trust also initiate various social activities and gives awards to meritorious students.
