Assault on doctor in Kolkata: IMA declares withdrawal of OPD services for 24 hrs from 6 AM
Ferozepur, June 17, 2019: Following the attack on Dr. Paribaha Mukherjee of NRSMCH and subsequent attacks on medicos all over Kolkata, IMA HQ has asked for withdrawal of OPD services for 24 hours wef 6.00 am on 17/6/2019 to 6.00am on 18/6/2019 in solidarity and support of agitating doctors of WB.
The local doctors will assemble at Aliza Hotel tomorrow at 9.30am to decide further course of action. Any new development/ information from IMA HQ/ Govt will be intimated, said Dr Rohit Singal, Hony Secretary, IMA Ferozepur Dr.Santanu Sen, National President in an communication to All the State Presidents and others have issued 15 point instructions to strengthen the agitation by withdrawing the services on Monday June 17, 2019 for 24 hours between 6 AM to 6 AM (next day). However, the emergency and casualties will function normally.
A situation room has also been established in IMA HQ to monitor the developments and progress.
Earlier, the medial body had launched a four-day nationwide protest from Friday and wrote to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding enactment of a central law to check violence against healthcare works.
The apex medical body, IMA, however, demanded a comprehensive central law in dealing with violence on doctors and healthcare staff, and in hospitals.
