Fatehgarh Sahib. July 07, 2019: District Football Association (DFA) Patiala won the Punjab State Senior Football Championship by defeating DFA Ropar by three goals to one in a keenly contested final match held at ITI grounds Bassi Pathana today. The Punjab State Senior Football Championship was organised by DFA Fatehgarh Sahib under the pattronship of Rajesh Pal Singh Lalli and Amarjit Singh kohli Secretary DFA. In this championship all the districts of the State participated. Dr. Amar Singh MP from Fatehgarh Sahib gave away the prizes, whereas Gurpreet Singh GP MLA and Subhash Sood president DCC presided over.
Both the teams DFA Patiala and DFA Ropar displayed the skills of the game and till half time both the teams were levelled with one goal each. DFA Patiala took the lead as Ramandeep Singh scored a field goal in 25th minute of the game, whereas for DFA RoparAmit Kumar levelled the score by converting penalty shoot.
In the second half the game was confined to mid field as both the teams were not taking chances. In the 58th minute GobindBahadur of Patiala scored a beautiful solo effort field goal and earned lead for his team. In the meantime DFA Ropar got a penalty shoot but it was wasted. In the dying 70th minute Shiv Raj Singh scored another goal for Patiala and sealed the fate of Ropar team, so DFA Patiala lifted the State trophy.
