Montreal (Canada), October 8, 2019: Amritsar resident Veena Arora has won a gold medal for India in para-taekwondo event at Canada Open 2019 Games here.
Arora, whose right hand was amputated due when a wrong injection was administered, has won many medals for India in her sport.
She has now set her eyes on the 2020 paralympic to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
Speaking to journalists, Arora said some time back she had the honour to receive the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award but rued the fact that no financial assistance or a job has been offered to her or other para-athletes from the state.
She self-finances and runs an NGO in Amritsar where children are trained in taekwondo. She requested the government to support such institutions financially.
