Mumbai, October 14, 2019 : Former Indian Captain Saurav Ganguly is likely to become President of the Prestigious Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI), according to some media reports.
Today (Monday) is the last day to file nomination for the election of office bearers of BCCI but no election will take place as all candidates have emerged unopposed after weeks of lobbying and hectic parleys.
These reports indicated that Jay Shah son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to become new Secretary of the board whereas Arun Dhumal, younger brother of Union Minister and former BCCI President Anurag Thakur will be the new treasurer.
Former Indian Captain Ganguly is currently the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). He will have to demit his post in September, 2020 as he will go into compulsory cooling off period.
47 year old Ganguly is one of the finest Indian captains. It is learnt that the choice for President’s post was always between Ganguly and Brijesh Patel and the former was finally accepted as an unanimous candidate. It is also likely that Patel will become IPL chairman.
When the new office bearers assume office, it will end a 33-month term of the Committee of Administrators, which called shots in running the cricket affairs in country post Lodha Committee reforms.
