CHANDIGARH, FEB 17, 2020: Former Punjab cricket captain Chaman Lal Malhotra breathed his last at Ludhiana on Saturday after a brief illness. Chaman Lal Malhotra affectionately known as 'Kaptan ji' by his fellow cricketers, played first class cricket from 1952 to 1970. He captained Eastern Punjab in 1957-58 and then went to England for his engineering studies. On his return he captained Northern Punjab in 23 matches from 1962 to 1968. After the merger of Northern Punjab and Southern Punjab he captained Punjab in 1969-70 and 1970-71. He was hailed as gentleman cricketer by his team mates and adversaries. After retirement he continued to be associated with Punjab Cricket Association as the Chairman of Senior Selection Committee for almost two decades. He was a role model for many Punjab cricketers and was always on hand to give guidance to the youngster from the repertoire of his vast experience.
