Chandigarh, July 17, 2019: Harpreet Singh Sidhu is back as STF chief, while five other senior police officers have also been promoted/transferred by the Punjab Government.
Sidhu, who was posted as SPS/CM will take over as ADGP/STF in place of Gurpreet Kaur Deo, IPS, who will take over as ADGP/Crime.
Sidhu makes a comeback to the Special Task Force, constituted to tackle the menace of drugs in the state, after he was controversially removed.
There is no clarity as to why Deo, who had taken over charge as STF chief recently, was shifted so suddenly.
Three IPS officers have been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). They are Prabhod Kumar, Rohit Choudhary, and Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota. All are 1988 batch IPS officers.
Kumar has been posted as Special DGP and Director, Bureau of Investigation. Chaudhary takes over as Special DGP, Policy and Rules, while Sahota will be Special DGP, Armed Battalions, Jalandhar.
This is for the first time in the state that the rank Special DGP has been introduced. Usually, this rank is used in central police forces.
