Lt Gen (retd) to be PPSC chief; names of judge, writer selected as members, file sent to Raj Bhwan
Chandigarh, August 17, 2019 : Amarinder government has selected Lt Gen Surinder Singh (retd) former GOC-in-C of Western Command, as the chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission.
The names of Mohali additional district and sessions judge Shivinder Singh Mann and author, poet Bubbu Tir has been finalised as members of the commission.
The file has already been sent to Raj Bhawan for Guv's nod.
The proceedings of the selection committee headed by CM , comprising Vidhan Sabha speaker Rana KP Singh and leader of opposition Harpal Singh Cheema has been sent to Raj Bhawan for approval.
The state government is waiting for Guv's approval .The appointments can only be notified after the nod of the governor. Normally , Raj Bhawan clears the names sent by the government but some times , Governor sent back the file to the state government for some technical and legal clarifications.
About 150 persons had applied for the PPSC posts, which included 35 applications for the post of chairman PPSC has one members. Chief secretary Karan Avtar Singh-led screening committee had shortlisted candidates for each post.
60 year old Lt Gen Singh retired as chief Western Army on July 31.
Author-columnist Bubbu Tir, 52, is the daughter of late Punjabi writer Gurnam Singh Tir (populalry known as Chacha Chandigarhia and famous for his satirical writings ).
Additional district and sessions judge Shivinder Singh, 58, has been selected as official member. He has served a special judge in the CBI court of Punjab and had decided many prominent cases.
