Malware Attack: BSNL offices open on Sunday to rectify problem

Ludhiana, July 30, 2017: The nationwide broadband services of the state-owned telecom operator hit by malware attack this week are being rectified on a war footing.
BSNL has asked users to immediately change the default system password with one at their own end. The attack hit the broadband modems, where users had not changed default password "admin" rendering then unable to login.
Given the magnitude and seriousness of the problem, the BSNL authorities issued orders to its employees work on Sunday as well to help users deal with the problem.
SDO BSNL Sub-Divisional Office, SBS Nagar, Ludhiana, Kamaljit Singh Shanker told babushahi.com that about 50 connections were reset by them on Sunday alone till afternoon.
“On an average, we have been resetting modems over 50 modems daily for last three days. The users are bringing their modems to our office for rectification. Our employees are visiting users’ houses for the purpose as well,” he said.
All offices of five BSNL Divisions of Ludhiana city in addition to Jagraon, Doraha, Samrala and Khanna were reportedly open for the purpose.
A botnet attack hit the information built into BSNL modems used for its broadband services across the country for three days.
Unaware of the malware attack, the subscribers of broadband services flooded the concerned BSNL offices with complaints as their systems failed to login. The hardest hit were those using broadband connection for professional, commercial purposes.
