11th Shramik train chugs off from Ferozepur to Molai with 1,045 migrants
Ferozepur, May 22, 2020: In the continuous process of shifting of migrant workers from Punjab, today evening at 7 pm, 11th Shramik train moved from Ferozepur to Molai district in Uttar Pradesh, carrying 1,045 migrant workers to their home towns.
The Punjab government had made arrangements for the special trains be bearing the cost of the tickets of the migrant workers, Rs.9.28 lakh for the 11th train, in view of the shutting down of various establishments in the state due to imposition of curfew and lockdown in the wake of coronavirus threat.
Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur Kulwant Singh said, only the interested and registered migrants have been allowed to board the trains. The migrants were subject to screening by the health department before boarding the train and they were provided with food packets, water bottles and masks with instructions to follow the social distancing norm.
On the one hand, the migrants were scared of the virus threat but expressed satisfaction over making arrangements of their shifting to their home towns by the Punjab government otherwise it would not be possible for them to join their families.
