New Delhi, May 26, 2020: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala) has sentenced Jinda Ani, Shri Container Santhosh, Penty Edwin(all private persons) and Santhosh Nair, then Dy.SP of Kerala Police, all to undergo 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment. The convicted accused shall also pay Rs.25,000/-each(total Rs.One Lakh) to Shri Babu Kumar(Complainant).
CBI had registered a case on September 12, 2013, on the orders dated 31.07.2013 of Kerala High Court in WP(C) No.18031/2012 filed by Babu Kumar, Head Constable, Kerala Police and taken over the investigation of the case earlier registered vide Crime No.55/2011 of Kollam East Police Station(Kerala). It was alleged that the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy in & around the year 2010 and in continuation of the same, attempted to murder Babu Kumar, Head Constable, Kerala Police by stabbing multiple stab injuries with a knife as revenge, as the victim reported about the alleged activities by police officials and cine stars, in the media. It was further alleged that one of the accused also manipulated the records and concealed/destroyed the knife, which was recovered through him.
After investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet on November 21, 2014, before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam against the said accused. The case was later transferred to Special Judge Court, Thiruvananthapuram on a jurisdictional basis.
The Trial Court found 04 accused guilty and convicted them. Two accused were acquitted by the Court.
