Kapurthala-Jalandhar, June 28, 2020: On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2020 district De-addiction and rehabilitation society, Kapurthala organized a special program on Saturday.
MLA Rana Gurjit Singh was the chief guest. During the program psycho-education was imparted about the harms of drugs, the reason behind drugs, treatment facilities and how we can rehabilitate them again in society was discussed in detail.
Rana Gurjit Singh on the occasion opined that the people those who became addict need care and support rather than punishment. The theme of this year is "Better Knowledge for Better Care" it means that the medical team, counselors and the public must have proper knowledge about all topics related to drug addiction so they can provide better treatment and care to addicts.
On this occasion, Rana Gurjit Singh inaugurated a unique project “DOvE” which stands for “Drug(Opioid) Overdose Education and Management”. In this project doctors, health professionals, NGO’s etc. will be provided information about signs and symptoms of opioid overdose and how to deal with it. District De-addiction and rehabilitation society, Kapurthala will run this project as an awareness campaign and it will emphasize more on the areas which are identified by Police as hot spots of addiction.
He also introduced and appreciated the unique Mobile OOAT program which was started by De-addiction and rehabilitation society, Kapurthala to deal with problems faced by patients because of curfew during COVID- 19.
S.D.M.Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa said that in the whole country Kapurthala is the only city where so many treatment modalities and facilities are available under one roof. He also said that the function was supported by Punjab Government along with Alliance India and Global Fund.
The Chief guest also launched a brochure in which information is provided about all the facilities and projects available for the treatment of addiction in Kapurthala.
During this program Mandeep Singh SP (PBI), Sh. Satnam Singh DSP Narcotics, Dr. Tara Singh SMO also spoke on the issue.
Dr. Sandeep Bhola, Baljinder Singh, Rakesh Sharma, Jasveer Kaur, Shaminder Kaur, Sarabjit Kaur, Gagandeep Kaur, Gurjit Kaur, Veena Rani, Manjit Kaur, Sharanjit Kaur and the whole staff of Navjeevan Kendra participated. By taking care of Covid-19 epidemic situation only 20 participants were invited.
