Amritsar, July 1, 2020: Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh and Shiromani Committee President Gobind Singh Longowal appealed to the Government of India to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib corridor as soon as possible.
Talking to media persons at the Secretariat after the religious function held on the occasion of Foundation Day of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Wednesday, Giani Harpreet Singh welcomed the decision of Government of Pakistan to reopen the corridor.
On the occasion, Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC President deplored the suicide of Brindar Singh, a Sikh youth from village Nangalchhanga in Nawanshahr district after his turban and hair were disrespected by the locals.
He demanded the Punjab government to register a case under Sections 302 and 295A against the people responsible for the suicide.
Giani Harpreet Singh asked all Sikhs to guard Sikh principles, traditions and customs. He also appealed to the media to be vigilant against attacks on Sikhs.
After the bhog of Sri Akhand Path and Gurbani Kirtan, Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib shared his views and said that Sri Akal Takht Sahib is not just a building but a true concept of Sikh ideology.
Giani Harpreet Singh expressed concern over the anti-Sikh propaganda on social media. He said that misuse of social media has done a great disservice to Sikh principles and institutions.
He said the entire Sikh community will have to stand up against this. Addressing the youth, he said that social media should be used consciously.
