Chandigarh police, Haryana police and Telangana police were awarded for the fastest Police Verification for Passports in the Passport Officers Conference -2016 organised by the Ministry of External Affairs to celebrated 4th Passport Sewa Divas and at Jawahar Lal Nehru Bhavan, New Delhi, on Friday. Rakesh Agrawal, Regional Passport Officer Chandigarh, was also awarded a cash prize of 10000 and Commendation certificate for achieving high standards of passport service delivery.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for External Affairs General (Dr.) V.K. Singh (Retd.), gave away the awards to the states and the best performing Passport Offices.
The engagement of the day included discussions and presentations by the senior officials of the Ministry, Passport Officers and officials of the service partner M/s TCS on passport related issues including prospective improvements in service delivery.
The performance of the Ministry during the last year towards rendering of passport related services has been significant in many ways. More
than 1.2 Crore passport related applications were processed in 2015 recording a growth of 18% over the volume in 2014.
Tejinder Singh Luthra IGP Chandigarh Police and Anil kumar Rao, IGP CID Haryana, received the award for
Chandigarh Police and Haryana Police respectively.
Chandigarh Police took about 12 days and Haryana police took around 14 days in completing the police verification, whereas all India average during this period was 26 days. All India average was 42 days two years ago and has significantly reduced leading to better and faster passport services. The Ministry’s aim is to bring down the all India average time for police verification to 15 days.
