Captain Amarinder in Sunam
Sunam (Sangrur), August 24, 2016: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today charged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of trying to get rid of Sucha Singh Chhotepur, the only credible and respectable Punjabi face in the Aam Aadmi Party, to pave the way for his own entry into Punjab.
Replying to a question about a viral video being circulated allegedly showing Mr Chhotepur taking money,
Capt Amarinder said, there was no doubt about it being conceived, planned and executed personally by Mr Kejriwal. "Nothing strange or surprising about it as it is a characteristic Kejriwal act of using people and then starting to defame them to eventually get rid of them", he said, while pointing out that Mr Chhotepur has an unblemished record of over 40 years in public life.
Replying to another question during an interaction with the reporters along the sidelines of the 'Halke vich Captain' programme here today, the PCC president sought deployment of adequate central security forces during the elections. He said, this was very important as Punjab was faced with a serious law and order problem with about sixty criminal gangs active in the state. Besides, he added, two terror attacks in the state last year make it all the more necessary.
He said, the Congress was battle ready and it can face elections anytime. He said, the party was far ahead of the Akali-BJP alliance and the AAP. "We don't see any competition leave aside a challenge from anyone", he said, while pointing out that the Akali-BJP alliance was already on the way out, AAP had started disintegrating.
Earlier responding to the suggestion of the party workers, Capt Amarinder agreed that the party needed to allot tickets on time. He said, process had started with the submission of applications which were being processed and will be submitted for scrutiny to the high command.
He appealed to the workers to ensure that whosoever gets the ticket from the party is elected. He said, the chairmanships will be given only to those who help the party candidates to win.
