Chandigarh, December 8, 2016: In news for past several days, Akali Dal MP Sher Singh Gubaya today confirmed that there was no option left for him and his family but to contest Punjab Vidhan Sabha election 2017. Even as he expressed hope of being considered for ticket nomination by his party, Gubaya strongly hinted that he would go by the decision of the people of his constituency in case of the rejection of his claim for ticket.
Talking on the entire issue with babushahi.com here today, the sitting Akali MP from Ferozepur also termed the news carried by the media about joining the Congress party as baseless. He alleged that all such news had been planted by his detractors within the party as part of the conspiracy.
Reiterating his loyalty to the Akali Dal, the popular Akali leader among his community, Gubaya said he had never even thought about leaving the party. To substantiate the loyalty factor, he recalled vacating the Jalalabad seat for Sukhbir Badal and ensured that he won the election. At the same time, he rued that despite promise, he was denied the party ticket in 2012 Vidhan Sabha election at the last moment. But he accepted the decision of his leadership with all humility and remained loyal to the party.
In Chandigarh accompanied by his younger son Devinder Singh, Gubaya said he had conveyed to CM Badal and Deputy CM his desire to contest Vidhan Sabha election about year ago. But no positive signal has so far come from both. He said that though the party announced the candidates from the seats he wanted to contest from but would still wait for the party’s decision for some more time.
When asked about his course of action if he failed to get the ticket, he said he would consult the people of his constituency and accordingly take the decision. But nothing concrete could be said at this stage, he added.
