SBS Nagar, January 20, 2017: The “ECI App” prepared by Vipul Ujwal, Deputy Commissioner cum District Electoral Officer, SBS Nagar have received a rousing response from people. It has crossed 5000 (five thousand) downloads with first three days. The App is serving a meaningful and significant purpose especially for the new voter’s .i.e. youth and political parties including media persons, because all important information related with election commission is available with just a touch.

Vipul Ujjwal and his wife Sonali Giri are often in the news for introducing new initiatives. Both are known as proactive and dedicated officers of the state. Earlier, during 2014 elections, they have invented ‘ivote’ a user friendly application, which was made available on ‘Google play store’ it provided various election related utility features like searching EPIC details, finding directions to the one’s polling booth, information about affidavits submitted by contesting candidates, a comprehensive model code of conduct for ready reference and an easy complaint submission mechanism. Sonali Giri was honoured on National Voters Day, January 25, 2015, for iVote in New Delhi.

Recently, on 22nd December, 2016, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated a Google toilet locator that will help people locate toilets. It has been made part of the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' as well as 'Digital India'. Finding a toilet is certainly a problem, especially for women. This app Google toilet locator was also a brain child of both Vipul Ujjwal and Sonali Giri.
Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. Naseem Jaidi has launched this “ECI App” prepared by Vipul Ujwal, during his last visit at Chandigarh on January 12. It was launched in the presence of all the DCs, SSPs of the state. While lauding the innovative initiative of the DC, Vipul Ujwal, the Chief Election Commissioner said that it would help the public especially political parties and media to have easy access to all the important information related to the Election Commission including notifications issued by the ECI and nominations filed by the different candidates.
Speaking with APS Brar, Deputy Commissioner, Vipul Ujwal, said that he himself had been facing difficulty to have an easy access to the ECI notifications and other important information related to candidates, officials etc. uploaded on the ECI website for want of a Mobile App. “The necessity of solving this problem stirred an idea to develop an android mobile app, which has ultimately been realized with the help of IT experts”, said the DC.
The home page of “ECI APP” contains icons, which included Citizen, Elector, Election Officials, Candidates, Media and Political Parties. All the important information can be accessed by just a finger touch on the related icon on the screen of mobile phone, added the DC, Vipul Ujwal.
By touching “Citizen” icon, one can have access to the information related to registration of new voters, previous election data, voters’ slip and complaints etc. On “Election Official” icon, the information related to Model Code of Conduct, Nomination schedule can be accessed. On “ Elector” icon, Forms 6, 6A, 7 & 8 related to voter registration, search of electoral officer, polling station , voter list and information regarding complaints, on “ Candidate” icon, Apps related to ECI : Suvidha, Smadhan, Sugam, on “ political Party” icon, information related to star campaigner, Suvidha and the rates of different articles being used during election approved by the ECI, Booth level agents, Samadhaan and on “ Media” icon, the press releases issued by the ECI, list of candidates, affidavits filed by the candidates, polling percentage, results related information can be accessed, further said the DC while adding that above all the newly developed ECI App would virtually enable the public to have hassle free access to the information as well as to submit any election related complaint by just having a touch on mobile screen.
