CBI Arrests A Punjab Officer For Bribery
Chandigarh, February 18, 2017 : The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a senior officer of Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Government of Punjab, Chandigarh for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000/- from the complainant.
According to an official press release of the CBI, a case was registered under section 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Jagjit Singh, Joint Director, Department of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Govt. of Punjab, Chandigarh on a complaint.
The complainant alleged that two officials had visited his Institute(ITI) and informed him that they had been directed to conduct inspection of his Institute on a complaint alleging that his Institute was running without proper lab equipments, charging fees from students of reserved category and had given admission to students who did not attend the class and having only 10% attendance of the students in his Institute. Show Cause Notice was also issued by the said department for de-affiliation of the Institute. The complainant visited the said Office and met the Joint Director. The Joint Director after having conversation with the complainant allegedly told him that he would get his Institute de-affiliated and demanded bribe of Rs.50,000/-.
CBI laid a trap and caught the Joint Director red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000/- from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the office and residence of the accused.
According to the CBI the arrested accused is being produced today in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandigarh,
The agency as per the earlier practice ,has not mentioned the name of the officer .
