INLD protest: Governments' law and order moves fail to impress travellers
Ludhiana, Feb 22, 2017: Even as the police have chalked out an alternative route plan for those intending to travel on February 23 to or through Haryana on February 23, security concerns remain alive.
It is a measure of the anxiety that has built up ahead of the INLD's political action of digging of SYL Canal at Ismailpur on Punjab-Haryana border on Thursday that even overseas Punjabis whose kin are scheduled to catch flights are enquiring about safety of crossing Haryana on way to airport in Delhi.
Such an overwhelming feeling is there despite the Punjab police releasing an alternative route plan for those intending to travel through Haryana from Punjab and Chandigarh. Like anxiety-driven overseas Punjabis, business people from Ludhiana too are wary of travelling to Delhi.
Probably the spectre of violence that was witnessed during Jat agitation earlier is still haunting the people who are enquiring about security measures taken by Haryana administration and police.
Surinder Warring from Surrey, Canada followed up his text message with a phone call here to know whether it would be safe to travel through Haryana. His daughter is scheduled to fly back to Canada on February 23.
“I would not take any chance of travelling through Haryana. Everybody knows what had happened last time when Jat agitation was on. The police had failed to provide any security in face of mob violence,” said Rajinder Sharma, a local businessman who has cancelled his scheduled business trip to Delhi.
