Now a Sikh group tries to entangle Dhillon in legal battle in Canada
Chandigarh, May 27, 2017: US-based rights advocacy group, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) has filed a case in Canadian court against retired CRPF Inspector General Tejinder Singh Dhillon currently in Canada on a personal visit.
In a video circulating on social media, SFJ Legal Advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannu said a case against Dhillon was filed at Ontario court on May 26 related to allegation of torture of Sikhs during his posting in Jalandhar Range in 2005-06.
Interestingly, Pannu mentions Dhillon as DGP of Jalandhar Range whereas the fact is that he retired as Inspector General which is a lower rank.
The case will come up for hearing on May 29.
SFJ has also alerted the police to stop Dhillon from fleeing to India.
Incidentally, the wedding reception of his niece is scheduled to be held on Saturday, the day the SFJ circulated this video.
Dhillon hit headlines when he was deported back to India this week from Vancounver airport.
He and his wife had flown into Canada to attend the marriage of his niece when he was deported back to India from Vancouver airport on the allegations of ‘rights abuse’. His wife, however, was allowed to stay back.
A day after he reached Ludhiana, Punjab where he resides, Dhillon got a call from the Canadian High Commission offering apologies for wrongly deporting him.
He was later obliged with instant visa and free ticket by the High Commission to fly back to Canada on May 24 to attend the family function.
