Chandigarh, June 19, 2017: Punjab CM Amarinder Singhh on Monday on turned down the demands by his own party MLAs to act against former Akali minister and the sitting MLA from, Majitha Bikram Singh Majithia for his alleged involvement in the drugs trade.
Congress MLA from Dera Baba Nanak Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa repeatedly urged the CM in this regard during the debate in the current budget session on the thanks-giving resolution on the Governor’s address.
Punjab would have been drug-free by now had Majithia been put behind the bars, said Randhawa ina fervent appeal to the CM.
Talking later to mediapersons in the Press lounge, Amarinder categorically said he had said on day one that his government did not believe in witch-hunting.
“We will certainly take action if some concrete evidence showed up in the drug related cases being investigated by the STF but there will be no witch-hunting," he said.
Randhawa may have said so after being swayed by emotions. In fact, all the MLA share this sentiment, he added.
Before Randhawa, Congress MLA Raja Warring had also, on the floor of the House, rued his own government’s inaction against those who had committed excesses during the tenure of the Akali-BJP government..
