Urges Chief Minister to punish those responsible for disrespect to turban and women legislators
SGPC demands apology from Amarinder government on turban issue
Ropar, June 26, 2017: Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar on Monday asked the Amarinder-led Congress government to tender apology on the issue of alleged disrespect of turban in the House during budget session of the Vidhan Sabha.
Condemning the alleged incidents of disrespect of the Sikh religious symbol turban and the women legislators, the SGPC chief asked the Amarinder government to initiate action against those responsible for these acts.
In the meeting of the interim committee of the SGPC here, a resolution was passed condemning the alleged encroachments of the Gurudwara lands at the behest of the Congress leaders. In another resolution, the SGPC condemned the injustice being meted out to the Punjabi language at different places.
Later talking with mediapersons, Prof Badungar held the Vidhan Sabha Speaker and Chief Minister directly responsible for the disrespect shown to the Sikh religious symbols misusing the government machinery. The state government should tender apology for this and punish the guilty Marshals of the Vidhan Sabha, he said.
Prof Badungar rued that no action was taken inspite of the memorandum submitted to Punjab Governor as well as written complaints to the Chief Minister and Punjab DGP for initiating action against those responsible for taking illegal possession of the Gudwara properties.
The committee passed a resolution in this regard demanding action for the last time and warned that the SGPC would be compelled to adopt some stringent measure if no action was taken on the issue of illegal possession, he added.
The committee also decried the step-motherly treatment to the Punjabi language in J&K. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was urged, through another resolution, to stop this discrimination against the Punjabi language in the state’s educational institutions and restore its respect and due status.
The committee also decided to felicitate Canadian citizen Palbinder Kaur at Darbar Sahib for becoming the first Sikh woman judge appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada.
