Sikh community members cheered during Fishers Freedom Parade
Fishers ( Indianapolis ) , JUNE 26, 2017 :
“Celebrate The Heart of Fishers." This was the theme of the 29th Annual Fishers Freedom Festival Pradae in Downtown, Fishers, Indiana
The parade showcased both high school marching bands and color guards, as well a number of organizations, church groups and others. Founding partner at Massillamany & Jeter LLP Mario Massillamany stated, "our firm loves supporting the Fishers community by participating in the local events."
Sikh community members, numbering 100 with two floaters and two pickup vehicles made their presence felt by serrving water, soft drinks, juice, candy and chips packets among the attendees gathered on both sides of the 2-km route. The Sikh participants were greeted by the attendees and their gesture to serve was highly appreciated as they offered water/soft drinks etc. by the Sikh volunteers, including young ones.
The Sikh community participated under the banner of Guwdwara Guru Nanak Darbar. The core committee members, including Gurpreet Singh Malhi, Baldev Singh Thind, Dilwara Singh, Rashpal Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Sikhs Political Action Committee chairman Gurinder Singh Khalsa.
The floaters carried the message of Happly 4th of July and God is One. One floater displayed history of Sikhs partcipating in various wars.
The parade was divided among six divisions under each divisional leader. The Division 1 and 2 was placed under Robert Reed. Rhonda Wright was leader of Division 3 and Darcy Bryant was inccharge of Division 4. Kayla Kehl was Division 5 leader while Joan Brenner was leader of Division 6.
The colorful parade commenced at 4:00 p.m from Lantern Road and Technology Lane. The participants headed North to Lantern Road and 116th Street. From 116th Street, the parade moved west to Holland Drive and traveled North to Ellipse Parkway, then to Lantern Road, and back to Technology Lane where the parade culminated.
