Ferozepur, June 27, 2017: The government aided school students too should be considered for admission in Meritorious Schools to raise the education standard of students in private schools as presently only the students studying in government schools, with 80 per cent marks in 10th class can get admission in such schools.
Punjab Govt has opened seven Meritorious schools at Amritsar, Bhatinda, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala & Mohali under the "society for Promotion of Quality Education for Poor & Meritorious Student of Punjab" for students from Govt schools who have scored more than 80% marks in Matric. The schools are residential and affiliated to PSEB and are for 10+1 & L0+2 classes only with the aim of placing deserving students into professional colleges at the all India level.
Sharing this information, Ajay Thukral, an educationist and social activists said, the initiative of the education department for setting up Meritorious Schools is commendable to prepare the students for better future avenues. But it is very unfortunate that at present only pass-out of government schools students with 80 per cent marks can admission in these schools and there is no mention of government aided schools.
He said, it is not understood as to why the private aided school students are not considered when aided schools are part and parcel of the government. By providing them this facility, they too can excel for better avenues to serve the country otherwise they will be deprived of the scheme.
Thukral demanded from the government to consider the admission of private aided school students with 80 per cent marks in Meritorious Schools so that they too could establish their distinction in the eyes of teachers, parents, society and government as well.
